The Hellenic Chiropractors’ Association is the only professional organization of chiropractors in Greece that is a member of the European Chiropractors’ Union and the World Federation of Chiropractic.
On the occasion of the 25-1-2025 announcement by the Panhellenic Association of Physiotherapists (https://www.psf.org.gr/psf-news-9293.htm), in which chiropractic is presented as a “special branch of physiotherapy,” the Hellenic Chiropractors’ Association reminds the public:
- According to the definition by the World Health Organization (WHO), chiropractic is “a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health.”
- According to the standard of the Hellenic Organization for Standardization, ELOT – EN 16224 – Provision of Health Care by Chiropractors, chiropractic is “a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the nervous system and general health.”
- According to Written Declaration 46/2010 of the European Parliament, chiropractic is: “An independent health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of ‘mechanical’ disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.”
The above definitions leave no room for doubt that chiropractic is an independent health profession and not a specialization or branch of physiotherapy.
In the spirit of interdisciplinary cooperation and to avoid any confusion regarding chiropractic among the general public, the Hellenic Chiropractors’ Association remains open to dialogue with any other public health body or association of health professionals.
